Useful, but optional

What these files
can and cannot do

llms.txt is a proposed format: a Markdown file at the root of a website with a title, a short summary and curated links. Shopify serves an agent discovery file at /agents.md for every storefront, with the same content at /llms.txt by default.

Google states that no special AI text files or markup are needed to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Treat the file as a helpful map, not a ranking factor, and fix pages, product data and feeds first.

Where to publish

At the root of your domain, for example https://yourstore.com/llms.txt, served as plain text or Markdown.

On Shopify

The managed agents.md is usually enough. A custom agents.md.liquid template replaces it, so only add one for a clear reason.

Keep it current

Links to removed pages or old policies mislead assistants. Review the file whenever policies or key categories change.

Keep it honest

List facts your pages support. The file should help systems find the real information, not make claims the store does not back up.

Questions

About the
generator

Want the file generated from your catalog and kept in sync automatically?

llms.txt or agents.md?

They use the same Markdown structure here. Shopify uses agents.md as its canonical name; llms.txt is the name in the original proposal. Many sites publish one and redirect or copy it to the other.

Is my information sent to HUB?

No. The file is built in your browser and downloaded from it.

Will this make ChatGPT recommend my store?

No file can guarantee that. It can make your key information easier to find; recommendations depend on the pages, data and reputation behind it.

What does your software
need to do next?

A new build, a difficult codebase or a system that needs support. Let’s talk.
